Notaries are Not Lawyers

The notary exam is given for a reason.  You need to know what you can do and what you cannot.  For example, some people tend to believe they can perform duties like drafting documents for people.  That is not true.  You are not commissioned as an attorney.  You are commissioned as a Notary Public.  There is a huge difference.  The only legal function you can perform is taking down a deposition, and in that respect, you are basically taking dictation or better yet, just verifying what is already down on paper with the individual that is going to sign the deposition.
